Fat Quarters

Lately I've been cutting orders for .25m of fabric as fat quarters (ie a square piece 50cm x half the width of the fabric bolt) which seems to suit most customers. So, I've officially changed our cutting policy so that if you order .25m we'll cut it as a fat quarter, unless you request otherwise in the Comments field on the checkout page.

Christmas closing dates

I'm off to Noosa for Christmas, so the shop will be closed from Thursday 20th December until Thursday 10th January. In between swimming, reading and eating gelati, I'll check and reply to all emails every couple of days. You can still place orders during this time - they will be posted on Friday 11th January.
Stay tuned though as I have a back log of posts to write before then!

Grandiflora Aqua

There is something I really love about this fabric. The colour and the scale of the print make it very striking, but it's then toned down a notch with the understated taupe background. Mmm, nicely balanced.

Oliver + S New Children's Patterns

Looking for gorgeous, contemporary patterns for children? Then look no further than Oliver + S. The range was created by Leisl Gibson, fashion designer and author of the well known blog distressed. Love the designs, and love the paperdoll illustrations - just beautiful!

The patterns are being released in the US in February next year. We'll be stocking them in the store hopefully not long after that.

Looking for Christmas Gift Ideas?

We now have gift vouchers available. A great idea for fabric loving friends or family. Of course, it would be totally OK to add to your own Christmas list too! You can buy them for any value and they can be emailed and/or we can post a printed certificate.

New Amy Butler Patterns

I've had a few enquiries about when we'll be getting the new Amy Butler patterns. The Sophia Carry-all and the Lotus Tunic & Cami will be available in our store early December and the Kimberly bag and Anna tunic will be available early January (or maybe late December).

Please feel free to order from the shop. You'll receive 10% discount, and we'll post your order to you on Monday 29th October. I'll also be replying to all email enquiries while I'm away.

Staple gun fun

Happiness is...a couple of spare hours on a Saturday afternoon, a staple gun and some Echino fabric! I whipped up these little babies and hung them in our hallway (sorry bad lighting when I took the hallway photo).

Trelise Cooper

While we're on the topic of great Australian designers, how about some Trelise Cooper inspiration. But wait, you say? Trelise Cooper is from New Zealand, you say? Well, yes, but we claim lots of other talented New Zealanders as our own, so what the hell!

Fabulous fabrics and a real flair for colour combinations characterises Trelise Cooper's collections. The picture at the bottom is from her children's range. I'm sure it's ridiculously expensive, but it is absolutely gorgeous.

Easton Pearson

Another great Aussie label is Easton Pearson. Fabulous fabrics, amazing detail, beautiful textures!

To Kill a Hummingbird

To kill a hummingbird? That's the title of the summer collection from Australian label Body. I absolutely love their ballet-meets-streetwear designs. In the past they have typically done a lot of stretch pieces (below) but recently they've incorporated some cotton prints (above) which are just lovely.

You can check out their collections here.

A pretty skirt out of this...

I'm thinking a nice big slouchy bag with brown leather handles out of this..

Not sure what to make from this, but I like it!

Lots of new stuff!

Lots of new exciting fabric has just arrived, so stay tuned and we'll gradually add it to the store over the next week.

New Note Taker Pattern

This is a really great pattern created by Kathy from Pink Chalk Studio. The Note Taker would make a lovely handmade gift for a friend or relative. The Echino fabric collection has been used to illustrate the pattern which looks fantastic, but any medium weight cotton fabric could be used.

New Amy Butler Nigella

I've decided that this one is my favourite and is destined for a summer skirt...

But then again, I quite like this one too.

Both of these and others available in the store here. We also have other colourways due in a few weeks.

More Etsy Love - Etui Boxes

I really love these Etui sewing boxes by Etsy seller SpareTimeCrafts. They are handmade using 23 separate pieces!

New bag pattern

Here's a really nice, classic bag pattern. The bonus is that it's reversible!

Sew a Go-Go

Now, here is one cool t-shirt. Available from the Etsy store Moxie Madness.

New Independent Design Store

If you haven't already checked out Madeit, it's worth a look. It's a new online store where you can sell or buy independent designer goodies. It's only new, but it's growing daily.

New Kristen Doran Fabric

We've just uploaded some great new Kristen Doran prints to the store! The top two red on white are on light weight cotton and the bottom two are on medium weight cotton. The gorgeous owls are perfect for kids clothing and bedroom accessories. Use the lily pad print to whip up an original cushion or tote bag, or get in early for summer and sew a skirt or top.

What's news?

Why, the Duckcloth July Newsletter, of course! View it here.

Amy Butler - Nigella

"Nigella" in the fabric collection, not as in "let me show you my aromatics"! Ordered and due in 3 or 4 weeks...a selection of Amy Butler's Nigella collection. Some of the Petal colourways are shown above. We also have some of the other colourways ordered and they're due to arrive August/September.
The fabric is extra wide (150cm) soft, medium weight cotton. A good all-rounder, it is suitable for home decorating but also soft enough for craft, quilting and clothing.
