Joel Dewberry in Barcelona

This is the first time I've tried the Barcelona Skirt pattern and I'm very impressed. To be honest, I was a bit dubious at first, as there is no reinforcement around the waist. All of the skirts I've made in the past have had a waist band or yoke of some sort, usually with some interfacing. But it works fine in this skirt, if anything it makes it more comfortable to wear. One tip though...if you're making it from light-weight cotton, when you're fitting it, make sure it is very firm around the waist, as it will loosen a bit in the first 20 minutes of wearing it.
I made this one from some of the Joel Dewberry fabrics but any light-weight cotton would work well. You could also make it from medium weight cotton (and skip the lining) as long as the fabric drapes reasonably well. This would work well for Autumn or Winter with long boots.

Two of my new year's resolutions are to update this blog more frequently and do more sewing (ironically, since I opened the fabric store, I've had less time for sewing than ever!) So, here are a couple of mini-projects I whipped up last year.

Some door stops and door snake made from Echino fabrics. Very easy stuff...four triangles, a square, a loopy thing, and copious quantities of small garden stones.

Crayons + white walls + a one year old = disaster! So, I recruited the Russion ladies to guard the walls. MDF covered in calico with a strip of Matryoshka Dolls fabric at the top. Very easy.

Lisa's Got Style

These beautiful, inspiring photos are from Lisa Barrett (one of my lovely customers from Canberra). Lisa sent me the photos to show how she used the Amy Butler Water Lotus fabric to make a throw for her sofa. I love how the whole room is tied together with the colours in the fabric. This is a perfect example of how Amy Butler's fabrics can be used in a contemporary setting without appearing too over-the-top.

Lisa has has an absolutely beautiful home and you can see many more inspiring images (such as the one below) from her home on her recently launched blog, Canberra's Got Style. I highly recommend you go and check it out!
Thanks for sharing these Lisa!
